        <p>I&#8217;ve created this thread for people to introduce themselves to the community. I guess I&#8217;ll get things going&#8230;
</p>
<p>
My name is Dick Hunter and I run GayWebmasters.com, RateARod.com, RateARear.com, QueerFetish.com and others. I got my start in the adult biz through Audio Text, also known as phone sex, back in 1997. That&#8217;s also when I built my first, rather pathetic looking webpage, to promote a date line. I&#8217;ve always been a porn junkie, so it was a natural progression when I started my first adult site in 1999. It was just a simple AVS site, but before long I had 150 simple AVS sites, and it was time to go full-time. In 2000 I launched my first membership site, QueerFetish.com, and then in 2001 I had an idea for a &#8220;Hot or Not&#8221; style rating site for penises. RateARod.com was born, and caught on right from the get go. It wasn&#8217;t long before Howard Stern was telling Robin and his listeners about the &#8220;Hall of Shame&#8221; on RateARod, joking that his picture belongs in there.
</p>
<p>
In 2004 I took on the persona of Dick Hunter when I began directing videos. I re-branded my websites as &#8220;Dick Hunter&#8217;s...&#8221;, which was a great fit for RateARod in particular. Shortly after the release of my last video, &#8220;An Army Of Fun&#8221;, I began working on the development on GayWebmasters.com. Which brings us right up to the present.

        <p>This was part of the speech that was presented in the recently concluded Cybernet 2010 entitled Content Management Systems – Lecture Cybernet – SFO
</p>
<p>
Advantages of using an open source program:
</p>
<p>
i) It is completely free
<br />
ii) The programming code is open – which means you can hire a programmer to fully customize it anyway you want. Usually finding programmers for open source programmers is also quite easy and a lot less expensive than a custom built CMS.
<br />
iii) You can customize it in almost any way to make it unique
<br />
iv) Typically there can be many free or very inexpensive plugins or add-ons which have been developed for the CMS.
<br />
v) An Open source CMS is very stable, as it is used but a lot of websites and has many updates which are all also free.
<br />
vi) Many design templates can be available for the CMS free or very inexpensive.
</p>
<p>
Some of the best examples of Open Source Programs used by Adult Sites are:
</p>
<p>
* Drupal
<br />
* Joomla
<br />
* Oscommerce – Shopping Cart
<br />
* Post Nuke
<br />
* PHPMotion – A Good video script could be used for VOD or video membership
</p>
<p>
Disadvantages of using an open source CMS:
</p>
<p>
i) There is no support for the program. You have to hire a developer to understand it, manage it and customize it.
<br />
ii) Open source programs can be less secure since their code is open. Hackers can create scripts to compromise the CMS and destroy or collect data or do many other destructive things.
</p>
<p>
In summary, using an open source CMS instead of CMS you buy means that you need to have good working technical knowledge or be able to hire someone who can be trusted to maintain and fix an issues from the CMS.
</p>
<p>
I always believe that unless you can afford to hire a full time programmer, it is always best to go for a CMS that you buy and that has support.
</p>
<p>
Just like you would not fix your car if you are not a mechanic, nor would you run your own server if you are not a server administrator.

CMS programs usually fall into certain categories, although can be used for almost any purpose. Here are some:
</p>
<p>
a) A CMS can be used to manage an adult membership site. Usually containing some photo, video or text content which is updated on a regular basis. Users are able to see previews of some content without having to pay and can subscribe to a protected area to see content which the administrator has decided to protect and only available to a paid member or subscriber.
</p>
<p>
b) A CMS can be used to manage a shopping cart website. The administrator is able to add products and users are able to purchase products.
</p>
<p>
c) A CMS can be used to manage an adult dating site. The administrator can set rules for what is free or what requires a payment such as; Creating a profile, communicating with other users, uploading photo or video content, etc.
</p>
<p>
d) A CMS can be used to manage video on demand or similar. Using the CMS to manage videos which can be purchased similar to sites like AEBN.net. Pay per minute, per view, per download, etc.There are two types of CMS programs. Open Source or Paid. An open source program is a program which is provided completely free of charge under the General Public License (GPL) License.
