Backlinking Can Improve Search Engine Rank

About peepee
 Information is not available

Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node. Backlinks are also called incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a website has as one of the factors for determining that website’s search engine ranking. For example, Google’s PageRank algorithm uses backlinks to help determine a site’s rank. Link popularity is a measure of the quantity and quality of other web sites that link to a specific site on the World Wide Web. It is an example of the move by search engines towards off-the-page-criteria to determine quality content. In theory, off-the-page-criteria adds the aspect of impartiality to search engine rankings. Link popularity plays an important role in the visibility of a web site among the top of the search results. Indeed, some search engines require at least one or more links coming to a web site, otherwise they will drop it from their index.

How To Write A Press Release

About Dick Hunter

Dick Hunter has been webmaster of popular gay sites such as RateARod and QueerFetish.com since 1999. In 2004 he began directing hardcore videos, such as his latest release "An Army Of Fun". In 2006 he launched this website, GayWebmasters.com.

Ever since GayWebmasters.com starting running Press Releases in the news section, I’ve been amazed at how poorly written many of them are. Writing a press release is not rocket science, and if done correctly can be a great way to publicize your website. First off, you need a good reason to put out a press release. For instance, you’ve just launched or re-launched your website, or perhaps a contest. You don’t want to over do it and put out a press release every time you add some new hosted galleries or update your content. But if you’ve got a good reason, by all means put out a PR!

All PR’s start the same way, and so should yours. Type “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE” in all caps, followed by your contact info.

The next, and some might argue the most important, element of a press release is the headline. You want something that’s short, but that catches the eye and is also informative. Most people will only see the headline, so I think it’s always good to try to include your website name. For instance, instead of:

We’re Giving Away $1000 A Month!

I’d use something like…

GayWebmasters.com Launches $1000 Monthly Giveaway!

This way, they get the news even if they don’t read the body.

Next comes the body of the PR. You should begin with your location, and the date. If you’d rather not use your town, or if the PR is a joint release between two companies in separate locations, you can use “Cyberspace” as your town. Some editors may frown on this, but it’s commonly done.

The first paragraph of the release should simply state the news or announcement you’re making. Be short and to the point. You should ALWAYS write in 3rd person, as if you were a reporter writing a story about yourself. I know it feels weird, but that’s how it’s done. You want to sound professional, so don’t go overboard with adjectives, or sound too “sales pitchy”. For instance…

Webmaster resource site and community GayWebmasters.com announced today that it will be holding a series of $1000 giveaways. To become eligible, you simply need to register for your free account and post at least one entry to the site.

Next, elaborate a little bit, and/or talk about your company.

GayWebmasters.com is for webmasters that are gay, webmasters of gay themed sites, and those with products and services for them. If you meet one of those three requirements, then you’re invited to join GayWebmasters.com and become eligible for the giveaway.

The site, founded by long time gay webmaster Dick Hunter, consists of four sections - a blog, forums, a resource directory, and news feeds. Members can submit articles, commentary, and tutorials to the blog, discuss and network in the forums, and post their services and products in the resource directory. One thing that makes GayWebmasters.com unique is that, though created by an adult webmaster, the site targets the broader mainstream market as well. With three different “views” available, visitors can choose to see the content related to adult webmasters, mainstream webmasters, or both.

I always like to include at least one quote, usually talking about how excited I am about something or other:

“I’m very excited about this contest,” remarked site founder Dick Hunter.  “The same person can even win multiple months, so it should be a lot of fun.”

Wrap things up with any “fine print” you feel you should include. Then type “For More Information:” and follow it with your contact info.

After that, hit return a few times, and then put three pound signs:

###

This tells the reader that the press release is over.

Be sure to spell and grammar check everything! Proof read it several times. I find that if I read something out loud I often catch mistakes I missed before. Or even better, have someone else proof read it for you!

Now that you’ve got your PR written, you need to submit it to news outlets. Here are several links you may find helpful:

Submit Your PR To GayWebmasters.com
Submit Adult PR’s To XBIZ Newscaster
Submit Mainstream PR’s to Gaywire
Run Your Mainstream Press Release on MarketWire

A Traffic Model That Has Worked Well For Me

Since I first started in the online adult biz in 1999, I’ve always relied on the same traffic model, which has worked well for me. In fact, many people in the industry use a similar model. It’s like a pyramid:

image

First, I’ve got free sites which form the foundation of the pyramid. That’s where most of the traffic comes from. From there, I funnel the traffic up the pyramid, as well as to a few choice outside sponsors, which usually offer recurring income. Since I only promote what I’ve found to be the most lucrative affiliate programs, the recurring income tends to snowball over time, which is really nice.

The next level of the pyramid would be your paysites. I find a good way to entice a free site surfer, who are often banner blind, to a pay site is through targeted niche advertisements (bondage, twinks, daddies, etc). Geo-targeting also works really well for certain programs, such as personals sites like Adult Friend Finder. Once you convert a free surfer to a paying customer, they’re golden. They’ve got a credit card, and they’re not affraid to use it. That’s where the top of the pyramid comes in.

The third and final level is upsells. By offering upsells through things like one-on-one live cam shows and Video On Demand you can make the most out of your paying customers. Of course, you don’t want to over do it with too many upsells. Like everything in life, it’s a balance.

Some people say that content is king. I say traffic is king, since the best content in the world isn’t any good if no one sees it. From my experience, traffic is the number one hurdle most new webmasters face. By diversifying your site portfolio with a variety of free and pay sites, and creating a synergy between them, along with utilizing choice upsells and sponsorships, you can often create a very profitable business.
